The protocol to facilitate the BTK Railroad Project

Between the governments of Turkey and Georgia, a protocol will be signed in September for the facilitation of the construction of the railroad tunnel planned to be built in Georgia and ‘Kars-Ahilkelek’ section of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railroad Project.

btk railwayIt is planned that the BTK Railroad Project that stipulates the direct interconnection of the Turkey-Georgia-Azerbaijan railroad networks by way of the construction of new 98-km railroad between Kars-Ahilkelek (Georgia) and the modernization of the current 160-km railroad in Georgia is to be implemented in 2014. The line that is expected to cost total 420 million dollars being 220 million dollars for the Turkish section and 200 million dollars for the Georgian section will constitute an important corridor that will ensure the railway access of Turkey to Central Asia, Far East and South Asia with its train-ferry lines transiting the Caspian sea and its connection between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
