Model partnership strategy will renovate logistics

The relations between Turkey and the USA used to be determined by politics, rather than commerce; however, since 2009, commerce has been stepping in with 'model partnership' strategy. Undoubtedly, the non-governmental organizations made major contributions. One of the persons, who set forth to crack the doors open for an economic dynamism period in every aspect and to vary Turkish-American commercial relations, is Chairman of Turkish-American Business Association and American Chamber of Commerce in Turkey (TABA/AmCham) Ekim Alptekin. Alptekin, who has been active for lobbying for a long time, is also known in the US market with his industrialist identity. According to Alptekin, who is one of the co-founders of Eclipse aircraft factory, of which the head office is in Albuquerque, EA Aeronautics and EA Construction, economical and commercial relations are the backbone of the friendship between these two countries for more than fifty years. Alptekin, who has stated, "The relations on governmental level and the diligent works of non-governmental organizations have accelerated the economic relations between the two countries," considers that increasing commercial relations with the US will also reinforce the US-Turkey alliance. Alptekin, who has stated that strong partnerships have been constituted between the two countries in the recent years and as TABA/AmCham, they are have been continuing their works to develop these relationships, has also stated the following: "In the past few months, we have carried out studies before the House of Representatives for including Turkey in Global Pass System. As a result of the positive negotiations with US bureaucrats, especially with John Boehner, President of US House of Representatives, and with Gregory Meeks, New York congressman, we believe that Turkey will be included in the program, which will enable Turkish businessmen to enter into the US without waiting on the border gate. We closely follow the presidential elections that will be held in November in the USA. Whoever comes into power, we will continue our relationships at the same level."

‘The country of opportunities’ Turkey is being watched closely by the USA
Alptekin, who has also mentioned the fact that Turkey has become the 17th biggest economy in the world and it is forging ahead to become an international actor, has emphasized that Turkey has become an important market that draw attention of the American investors with its reinforced economy, opportunities and business opportunities. Alptekin has emphasized that the trade volume between the two countries, which was 14.7 billion dollars in 2010, has reached 19.8 billion dollars in 2011, and he also stated that Turkish export to the USA has exceeded 5 billion dollars and the American export to Turkey is around 15 billion dollars.
Alptekin, who has stated that Turkey is the role model of the region as a result of the political developments and economical success, "However, due to the positive relations of Turkey with undeveloped countries and its influence over these countries, the American fund companies that provide funds for undeveloped countries visit Turkey, because they aim to invest by using Turkey's power over these countries."
Alptekin, who has stated that the visits between Turkey and the USA have increased especially after 2010, and many commercial committees have come to establish business partnerships, has also stated the following: "Now, Turkey is not only a supplier country, it also carries out production and export. In this direction, we can say that we start to make trade with the USA in value added business fields and our commercial relations are diversified. Not only in traditional fields, investments are made to perform business in fields, such as, defense and aerospace, health, energy, food, information and communication technologies and construction. Investments are made by Turkey in the USA."

Logistic reflections of this commercial acceleration…
Alptekin, who has stated that capacity and load capacity of the logistics sector have increased in parallel with the increasing commerce between the two countries, "Economic growth has positive reflections on the development of logistics sector. Along with globalization, the markets are integrating rapidly and the barriers between the economies are disappearing. Turkey has a special location since it is the connection center of Europe, the Balkans, Middle East and Central Asia via land, maritime lines, railroads and airlines. Turkey has the potential to become a logistics base due to its strategic position and opportunities. The government has been carrying out significant regulations regarding customs and foreign trade."
Alptekin, who has expressed that the customs play a crucial role for the increase of foreign investment, has also stated that it is necessary to resolve the problems in customs in order to achieve these goals. "Regulations and implementations must be facilitates, world standards must be applied with fundamental infrastructural regulations" says Alptekin and states that the sector will develop further with legal regulations and infrastructure works and it will become more significant with the commercial developments.
