db_schenker_arkasBeing among the top three air freight forwarders in Turkey, DB Schenker Arkas had handled over 57 thousand shipments and approximately 17 thousand tons of freight last year. Lucio Filippucci, Air Cargo Product Manager, says that to better serve the customers’ special needs, DB Schenker Arkas has developed some special solutions such as “Aeroparts, Marineparts and Skybridge”, each has quite unique features. Also having more than 2 thousand offices around the world as DB Schenker, DB Schenker Arkas has a solid network thus the Company is very active in Europe, Far East, the Americas, and the Near Middle East. These mentioned regions are quite important for airlines and space industry. Seeing this importance, DB Schenker Arkas had launched a special solution named “Aeroparts”. By working 7/24 and offering a time-guarenteed service, Aeroparts allows shipment of materials as diverse as screws that weigh only one kilogram to airplane motors that weigh 10 tons to any destination around the world. DB Schenker Arkas also has a unique service for the marine industry named “Marine Parts Services”, a special logistics service for ship and yatch owners/ builders -serving ocean vessels, transporting spare parts and all their needs to yatchs and vessels.
SKYBRIDGE is an other important service of the compary. DB Schenker developed SKYBRIDGE product based on the import from Far East countries to Turkey and Europe. Filippucci underlines that SKYBRIDGE is an alternative service of DB Schenker Arkas to reduce transport costs in comparison with a standard air freight shipment, and reduce transit time in comparison with a standard ocean freight shipment.
Also by mentioning the importance of the air cargo sector for DB Schenker Arkas, would you please tell us about the services that DB Schenker Arkas provides in this sector?
We have services from “Airport-to-Airport, Door-to-Airport, and Airport-to-Door as well as on Door-to-Door basis along with additional services like handling, storage and customs clearance upon request. We also offer specialized services called  “Aeroparts, Marineparts and Skybridge”- to better serve our customers’ special needs. Our position in the IATA ranking list is always among the first three forwarders. The air cargo operation  has a  very important part in our work volume, and although  we are recognised as a land transportation  company, our airfreight and seafreight volumes are almost as high as land transportation.
For which sectors does DB Schenker Arkas provide air cargo services? Does the Company provide sector-oriented solutions for its customers?
Within the air cargo services, we have developed a special service called “Aeroparts” – a service that provides services specifically to the airlines and space industry. Aeroparts allow shipment of materials as diverse as screws that weigh only one kilogram to airplane motors that weigh 10 tons to any destination around the globe. The most specific features of the Aeroparts Department are that it works 7/24 and offers a time-guarenteed service. Under this same department, we also have the Marine Parts Services, a special logistics service for ship and yatch owners/ builders -serving ocean vessels, transporting  spare parts and all their needs to yatchs and vessels. As DB Schenker Arkas, we continue to develop new business solutions for our customers’ needs.
Would you mention the lines where DB Schenker Arkas is very active, and also tell us about the Company’s domestic and international structuring, agency network and offices?
As DB Schenker Arkas, we have seven branches, three sales offices, and five logistics centers located in Istanbul – Izmir – Ankara – Bursa – Mersin- Gaziantep– Denizli, Kayseri, Konya and Eskişehir. Furthermore, as DB Schenker having more than 2 thousand offices around the globe, we could easily say that we are present  almost anywhere. However our lines as DB Schenker Arkas which we are very active in the air cargo field can be mentioned as; Europe, Far East, the Americas, and the Near Middle East. Africa is starting to get more and more important in this field as well.
In the business volume of your company, what kind of importance and position do the Far Eastern countries, primarily China, have? Since when has been DB Schenker Arkas serving in this line?
The Far East countries have always been a very active market specially for the semi conductors and electronic articles. China now receives a much more bigger attention, and of course a bigger volume share in the company.  Due to rather big fluctuation based on aircargo rates – space avalability and transit time, DB Schenker developed the so called SKYBRIDGE product based on import from Far East countries to Turkey and Europe. Skybridge is an alternative service of DB Schenker Arkas to reduce transport costs in comparison with a standard air freight shipment, and reduce transit time in comparison with a standard ocean freight shipment. It is a combination of sea and air transport, meaning transport by seafreight on FCL, and specially LCL basis to Dubai where we have our hub with a very efficient service to transfer all the goods by air to Turkey, and European major cities. Investments for the Far East market is already in progress by DB Schenker, adding continiously new offices all over China and Far East.
